The philosophical aspect of internal arts is very interesting. Providing a fascinating area of thought and also providing a principle for movement. Thus a keen mental understanding of a specific philosophy guides and informs the way the body is understood and used. As an internal Chinese martial art Wing Chun is steeped in the philosophy of Taoism and having understanding of each enriches the comprehension of the other. The Chi Gung and Yoga practiced in class has a hugely beneficial and positive effect on mind as well as the body, relaxing and strengthening both.

Seemingly complicated ideas can become clear when explained with movement in a physical context. Much of our learning and thinking is restricted to abstract linguistic speaking and listening. Getting up and moving invigorates the body and the mind and puts a new perspective on understanding. Practice of kung fu can be seen as kinesthetic learning. An environment of play, focus challenge and excitement will form the bedrock of our kids classes and characterises our current adult classes. We learn a lot when we are young and have limitless energy and positivity, these qualities should be cultivated in our adult selves as well! This is what we aim to encourage. May you be happy and healthy!
