We have two more seminars booked in this year; please see further details via our Facebook Event Links (bottom left home page). Read below for the low-down of Sifu Wai’s last visit!
Sifu Wai is also the Dutch representative of GM Wan Kam Leung’s Practical Wing Chun System. We became students of Sifu Wai about two years ago and focus our learning on Practical Wing Chun.
Despite volcanic eruptions Sifu made it here. A big thanks to him for making the extra effort to visit us. Saturday was a fantastically sunny day and we enjoyed a walk through
Sifu led us through the first student grade of the Practical Wing Chun system. We went through our form together. We then focused on the first three sections of the Siu Lim Tao, drilling the positions to refine our angles and structure. We then added these movements to footwork drills to develop an understanding of range.
Sifu Wai’s demonstrations of how to effectively drill the form were most instructive. The effortless power with which he moves is a credit to his dedication to practice. The power he can generate was a surprise and an inspiration all.
We are now busy with the work of further drilling the form to really tighten the angles. Drilling the forms tightly means that when the adrenaline, natural expansion and loss of precision of a fight kick in we are relatively still close to the efficient and effortless positions we know.
We model these fighting conditions with sparring drills, combining just a few familiar movements into solutions to common attacks. Gloves on, heavy power and intent, see how pretty you can make the form look now!
Again a massive thank you to Sifu Wai. We hope to see him in
